By Bemi (Founder Mor Music Group)
This week I got a chance to interview up and coming British girl
group/musicians called Not Completely Blonde. The name choice is both obvious
and clever. Two blondes and a brunette - the obvious reason. On a clever note, the name choice almost implies the girls are telling us they are not your stereotypical
blonde (in my view that is).
The girls’ vocals are on point. In addition, they play musical instruments.
Hence, they are not your typical girl group. I literally fell in love with
these girls after listening to their new track “Playground” (click here for the
video).
Below is my interview with Not Completely Blonde:
1. Could you give a brief
introduction of the group members and their role?
We are a three-part vocal trio and accompany
ourselves with acoustic guitar played by Aliana, bass guitar from Beth, and
percussion played by Fiona. When we arrange our music, we get to have a lot of
fun switching up our harmonies - if you listen closely, one girl is almost
never on the same part the whole way through a song!
2. How did the group come together?
We all attended the same secondary school and knew
that we each loved to sing, so for our final school concert we put together a
medley of 'Let It Be' by The Beatles and 'Lean On Me' by Bill Withers... and
the rest is history!
3. Who are your musical influences
and how would you describe your genre of music?
Each of us is inspired by different artists and
eras, but we all really enjoy the singer-songwriter genre (e.g. HAIM, Ed
Sheeran). The best way to describe our music is acoustic/folk/pop - although
we've definitely struggled trying to describe our sound in the past.
4. You’ve got a great fanbase - over
2000 likes on Facebook. You also have an active fanbase - 50 people talking
about you (week of May 5th 2014). How do you manage to
constantly interact with your fanbase?
It's important to always update our fans with
everything that we're doing to keep them connected. We try and make our posts
and tweets as personal and entertaining as possible so that fans can relate to
us and know that we're people too, not just a brand! Another way to get in
touch with people is through our mailing list, through which we send exclusive
offers.
5. Do you have any new music coming
out soon (single/EP/album)?
In March we released our second EP 'Not Completely
An Album', which was a great success and charted in the iTunes singer-songwriter
category! We're hoping to release a live EP recorded at our launch party, so
keep your eyes peeled.
6. Festival season is here – any
festival gigs lined up for Not Completely Blonde?
Our summer's looking really busy! Some of the
festivals we're playing at this year include Sportbeat in Gloucester, Forever
Sun Festival and The Green Gathering alongside Toploader, The Buzzcocks,
Razorlight and The Hoosiers.
7. Where would you like to see Not
Completely Blonde 5 years from now?
At Glastonbury! Or touring all over the globe. Our
biggest dream is to have a crowd singing all of our lyrics back to us. That
would be the best feeling in the world.
8. Do you have any message for your
fans out there?
Keep checking our Facebook and website to see where we're playing next,
and come and say hello! Thank you for all of your support so far - we love you!
