His thoughts were interrupted by a knock on the door. It was Lisa, his personal assistant.

“Jason and Mel Mint are here to see you,” she said.

“Thanks, you can let them in,” Max responded.

Jason walked in with his mum. Everyone exchanged pleasantries.
Max proceeded to initiate a very difficult conversation.

“Well, we need to talk about a few issues,” Max said.

Mel cut in, “Actually we need to talk about a few issues as well,”

“We are not happy here and we want out of the contract.” continued Mel.

“Thank you Mel” said a little voice in Max’s head. Max quickly got up from his seat and walked over to Jason. Max shook hands with him and echoed the usual corporate words to end a business relationship - “It has been a pleasure working with you. I wish you all the best.”

Mel and Jason looked puzzled. Mel muttered, “We are open to negotiations,” - this was a desperate effort to salvage the situation.

It suddenly dawned on Max that their initial intentions was to negotiate a better deal. Well, they played right into his hands and made the meeting much easier for him.“Negotiations?” thought Max, leverage was a requirement for negotiations and for someone with no talent, there were no bargaining chips.

Max responded “I have a teleconference meeting right now. Can I get back to you?” He quickly ushered Mel and Jason out of his office before either one of them could utter another word.

“Not a bad meeting after all,” Max thought. He looked outside the window. The sunrays had disappeared and had given way to dark clouds. It started to rain – it was another gloomy day in London.
