By Bemi (Founder Mor Music
Group)
Nishe is an up and coming UK
band. Recently they won Play at LMF heats (for Leicester Music Festival
featuring Tinie Tempah, Professor Green, Union J, Labrinth, Soul II Soul, Cool
& the gang, Billy Ocean and more big acts).
You can read more about the
band in the interview I had with them:
1. First of all, we
would like to congratulate Nishe on winning their group heat for Play at LMF
(Leicester Music Festival). Now you’re through to the semi-finals – could you
share your thoughts with our blog readers?
Thank you very much! It was a great experience for us since it was our
first time in Leicester. Playing in front of a new audience and winning the
heat felt like a very good reward for our work so far. The semi-final will
definitely be more challenging, so we keep practising as much as we can.
2. Could you give a
brief introduction of the band members and their role in the band?
The band consists of Giovanni Zappa (vocals, guitar - 20 years old),
Thomas Romer-Smith (drums, backing vocals - 19 years old) and Harold Wilson
(bass, backing vocals - 18 years old).
3. Nishe is a
catchy band name – how did the band come together and how did you pick a band
name?
It all started when I (Giovanni) moved to London last year. I was
writing songs and looking for great musicians to set up a band, so I met Harry
and Tom after having played with endless other performers. We had our first
rehearsal in August 2013 and immediately understood that something serious was
coming out.
Regarding the band name, finding one is very hard these days, especially
because almost every name you can possibly come up with is very likely to be
already taken by another band on the other side of the planet. However going
through my iTunes library I found the name “Nishe” which is a b-side track of a
Muse single and thought it was a very cool name. I really liked the sound of
it, refined yet simple and gritty at the same time, just like our music.
4. How would you
describe your genre of music?
A simple way to describe it would be Alternative-rock with an Indie
basis, featuring eclectic elements such as energetic rocky riffs, some reggae
inspired grooves, catchy melodies and a hint of electronic and psychedelic
sounds.
The best way to find out is to listen to our songs and come to our gigs!
5. You’ve got
almost 2000 likes on Facebook. It’s easier to gain followers on Twitter than to
gain likes on Facebook. For a band that joined Facebook August of last year
(2013), that’s a great accomplishment. You also have a lot of fan activity on
your page - how do you keep your fans engaged?
On social networks we tend to work internationally, trying to spread our
music outside the UK too. That’s why we have many likes from different
countries such as Italy, France, USA, Spain, Portugal, Turkey… We always try to
keep our fans interested by posting photos, videos, reviews, interviews,
updates about gigs etc…
6. Do you have any
new music coming out soon (single/EP/album)?
Our 4 song EP “This Is Nishe” is now available for everyone to stream on
SoundCloud and will also be downloadable from iTunes in a few weeks, in case
anyone wants it on their iPod. Alternatively we sell physical copies at each of
our shows.
7. Festival season
is around the corner – any festival gigs lined up for Nishe?
We’ve been confirmed for Keynsham Music Festival 2014 on July 6th so
far, but we’re also waiting for many more responses. Keep checking our website
for updates!
8. Five years
from now, where would you like to be as a band?
Our aim is to be inspirational, delivering our music to as many people
as possible. We’d like our songs to mean to people what the songs that we love
mean to us.
9. Do you have any
message for your fans out there?
We just want to say thank you very much for listening to us, and we hope
that our songs can be part of the soundtrack of your lives.
We’re looking forward to seeing you at our gigs!
