American Idol returned on Wednesday night. However, Jennifer Lopez's comeback as judge on the show did not help the struggling ratings. 'Empire', a drama about the music industry had a 3.7 rating, whilst American Idol had a 3.1 rating (down from 4.7 in January 2014).
